HAQM Athena is now integrated with the AWS Glue Data Catalog. The AWS Glue Data Catalog provides a central metadata repository for all of your data assets regardless of where they are located. It integrates with HAQM S3, HAQM RDS, HAQM Redshift and HAQM Redshift Spectrum, HAQM Athena, HAQM EMR, and any Apache Hive Metastore compatible application. If you already use HAQM Athena, we recommend that you upgrade from using Athena’s internal Data Catalog to AWS Glue Data Catalog. Click here to learn more about the upgrade.
With Glue Data Catalog, you will be able to create a unified metadata repository across various services, crawl data sources to discover schemas and populate your Data Catalog with new and modified table and partition definitions, and maintain schema versioning. You can also use Glue’s fully-managed ETL capabilities to transform data or convert it into columnar formats to optimize cost and improve performance.
