HAQM FSx, a fully managed service that makes it easy to launch and run feature-rich and highly-performant file systems, now offers Federal Information Processing Standard (FIPS) 140-2 validated endpoints to help you protect sensitive information. FIPS 140-2 is a U.S. and Canadian government standard that specifies the security requirements for cryptographic modules that protect sensitive information. U.S. Federal agencies and companies contracting with the U.S. Federal government can leverage this validation to help them better meet the FIPS security requirement to encrypt sensitive data on their HAQM FSx file systems.
HAQM FSx provides two file systems to choose from: HAQM FSx for Windows File Server and HAQM FSx for Lustre. HAQM FSx for Windows File Server provides fully managed, highly reliable file storage that is accessible over the industry-standard Server Message Block (SMB) protocol. HAQM FSx for Lustre provides a high-performance file system optimized for fast processing of workloads such as machine learning, high performance computing (HPC), video processing, financial modeling, and electronic design automation (EDA).
To use a FIPS validated connection, specify an HAQM FSx API FIPS endpoint when connecting to HAQM FSx APIs. All data transferred by this connection will only use FIPS validated encryption.
FIPS 140-2 validated endpoints for HAQM FSx are available in the following AWS Regions: US East (N. Virginia), US East (Ohio), US West (N. California), US West (Oregon), Canada (Central), and AWS GovCloud (US) Regions.
