With HAQM Redshift federated query capability, many customers have been able to combine live data from operational databases with the data in HAQM Redshift data warehouse and the data in HAQM S3 data lake environment in order to get unified analytics view across all the data in the enterprise. Now HAQM Redshift federated query support is generally available for HAQM Aurora MySQL and HAQM RDS for MySQL databases in addition to the existing HAQM Aurora PostgreSQL and HAQM RDS for PostgreSQL databases.
HAQM Redshift federated query allows you to incorporate live data from the transactional databases as part of your business intelligence (BI) and reporting applications to enable operational analytics. The intelligent optimizer in HAQM Redshift pushes down and distributes a portion of the computation directly into the remote operational databases to help speed up performance by reducing data moved over the network. HAQM Redshift complements subsequent execution of the query by leveraging its massively parallel processing capabilities for further speed up. Federated query also makes it more easier to ingest data into HAQM Redshift by letting you query operational databases directly, applying transformations on the fly, and loading data into the target tables without requiring complex ETL pipelines.
Federated query support for HAQM Aurora MySQL and HAQM RDS MySQL databases is available to all HAQM Redshift customers. To get started and learn more, visit the documentation. Refer to the AWS Region Table for HAQM Redshift availability.
