AWS Graviton3-based M7g and R7g database instances are now generally available for HAQM Relational Database Service (RDS). Graviton3-based instances provide up to a 30% performance improvement and up to a 27% price/performance improvement (based on on-demand pricing) over Graviton2-based instances on RDS for open-source databases depending on database engine, version, and workload. You can launch these database instances when using HAQM RDS for MySQL, HAQM RDS for PostgreSQL, and HAQM RDS for MariaDB.
AWS Graviton3 processors are the latest generation of custom-designed AWS Graviton processors built on the AWS Nitro System. The Graviton3 processors offer several improvements over the second-generation Graviton processors. Graviton3-based M7g and R7g are the first AWS database instances to feature the latest DDR5 memory, which provides 50% more memory bandwidth compared to DDR4, enabling high-speed access to data in memory. M7g and R7g database instances offer up to 30Gbps enhanced networking bandwidth and up to 20 Gbps of bandwidth to the HAQM Elastic Block Store (HAQM EBS). M7g and R7g on HAQM RDS for MySQL and MariaDB will also support Optimized Writes. With Optimized Writes you can improve write throughout by up to 2x at no additional cost.
M7g and R7g database instances are supported on RDS for MySQL version 8.0.28 and higher, RDS for PostgreSQL version 13.4 (and higher) and 14.5 (and higher), and RDS for MariaDB version 10.4.26 (and higher), 10.5.17 (and higher), and 10.6.10 (and higher). These database instances are now available in the following AWS Regions: US East (N. Virginia), US East (Ohio), US West (Oregon), and Europe (Ireland). For complete information on pricing and regional availability, please refer to the HAQM RDS pricing page. Get started using the HAQM RDS Management Console.
8/2/2023 - A reference to on-demand pricing has been added to clarify that the 27% price/performance improvement is based on on-demand rates.
