Today, AWS announces the general availability of HAQM DataZone. This data management service is designed to catalog, discover, analyze, share, and govern data at scale across organizational boundaries with governance and access controls. It provides data visibility and helps data producers and consumers across business units more securely share data.
Data producers can publish, manage, and govern data with enriched business context in the HAQM DataZone business data catalog, so data consumers can more easily find and understand the data. Data producers get business-friendly asset naming suggestions from an artificial intelligence (AI)–powered assistant, which accelerates the process to enrich metadata. Data consumers then search and subscribe to data assets—using HAQM DataZone data projects—to create business use case–based groupings of teams, analytics tools, and data assets.
Consumers can instantly collaborate, share, and work with their peers using data projects and environments to seamlessly invoke tools like HAQM Redshift Query Editor, HAQM Athena Query Editor, or a tool of their choice programmatically. The integrated publishing and subscription workflows provide systematic governance for automated data processes and generative AI usage with governed datasets, using the same consistent project framework.
HAQM DataZone domains can be provisioned in the following AWS Regions: US East (Ohio), US East (N. Virginia), US West (Oregon), Asia Pacific (Singapore), Asia Pacific (Sydney), Asia Pacific (Tokyo), Canada (Central), Europe (Frankfurt), Europe (Ireland), Europe (Stockholm), and South America (São Paulo). AWS IAM Identity Center must be configured in the same Region as the domain. You can publish data from any of these Regions to the HAQM DataZone business data catalog. Users can subscribe to the data and consume it in the same Region in AWS analytics services, such as HAQM Redshift and Athena.
