AWS Week in Review – February 16, 2015

Let’s take a quick look at what happened in AWS-land last week:

Monday, February 16	We gave you the ability to Set Preferred Payment Currency for your AWS Account. We announced the Internet of Things (IoT) Hack Series at the AWS Loft. We added AWS Customer Succcess Stories from ExcelSoft, GranBio, TATA Motors, Philips, and The Weather Company. A post on the 2nd Watch Blog talked about Accurate Enterprise Cloud Cost Tracking & Allocation. The High Scalability Blog talked about Scaling Kim Kardashian to 100 Million Page Views.
Tuesday, February 17	We gave you the ability to Seamlessly Join EC2 Instances to a Domain. We announced that the AWS Security Token Service is now Available in Every AWS Region. We launched an Elastic Beanstalk Update with Environment Cloning, 1-Click IAM Role Creation, and Periodic Worker Tasks. The Cloudability Blog asked (and answered) the question AWS Has Stopped Selling Light and Medium RIs, Now What? A post on the Cloud Academy Blog compared HAQM S3 vs. HAQM Glacier: A Simple Backup Strategy in the Cloud. We updated the AWS Command Line Interface (AWS CLI), the AWS Tools for Windows PowerShell, and the Java, .NET, Ruby, and JavaScript AWS SDKs. A new video from AWS Evangelist Ian Massingham covered Best Practices for Getting Started on AWS. A post on the Twittter Engineering Blog discussed Handling Five Billion Sessions a Day – in Real Time.
Wednesday, February 18	A post on the GoSquared Engineering Blog talked about Running T2 Instances on EC2. We launched AWS Certification for DevOps Engineers. A post on the AWS Startup Collection provided an IoT Small Things Primer. The AWS Windows and .NET Developer Blog talked about Using NuGet and Chocolatey Package Managers in AWS CloudFormation and AWS Elastic Beanstalk. A post on the AWS Mobile Development Blog talked about Integrating HAQM Cognito Using Developer Authenticated Identities: An End-to-end Example. The AWS Ruby Development Blog published Part 2 of a series on the HAQM DynamoDB Document API in Ruby, covering Condition Expressions. A post on the AWS Security Blog showed you how to Share Custom Encryption Keys More Securely Between Accounts by Using AWS Key Management Service. We launched version 0.0.19 of cfncluster. This is a framework that deploys and maintains HPC clusters on AWS. The Skyfence Blog offered Top 5 Tips for Securing Your AWS Management Console. Continuing their Top 10 series, a post on the Evident.io Blog provided AWS Security Best Practice #2 – Enable MFA Tokens Everywhere.
Thursday, February 19	A post on the Atomic Object Blog showed you how to perform Super Cheap Data Backups with HAQM Glacier Storage. A post on the Cloudlytics Blog talked about Wielding the CloudTrail Logs for Internal Security & Compliance Audits. The Cloud Academy Blog invited you to Learn to Manage Elastic Block Store Volumes with our Hands-on Lab. We announced an EC2 Container Service Update. You can Access Private Docker Repos and Mount Volumes in Containers. A new Code Fellows tutorial showed you How to Upload Files Using the AWS SDK Gem. We published a new AWS Webcast on ClickStream Analyics with HAQM Kinesis and Apache Storm. A post on the 2nd Watch Blog reviewed the new HAQM Web Services DevOps Certification. We added Two New System Views to HAQM Redshift.
Friday, February 20	We published a new AWS tutorial: Enforcing a Squid ACcess Policy for HAQM S3 and Yum. We announced that HAQM Elastic Transcoder now Displays Warnings for Sub-optimal Configurations. We announced Improved Tag Searching (Negative and No Value) for AWS Management Console. A post on the AWS Big Data Blog covered Snakes in the Stream – Feeding and Eating HAQM Kinesis Streams with Python. I recorded and published Episode #100 of the AWS Podcast. This episode includes a review of the latest AWS news and an interview with Stefano Bellasio of Cloud Academy. A post on the ElasticBox Blog talked about All the Storage you need for Large-Scale Deployments. New products added to AWS Marketplace include concrete5 Stack, SAIN3 Magento (with LAMP and Webmin), NCache for Cloud, LORIC, StorReduce, DataARCH, Prosper202, PHPMotion, and Tracmor.
