AWS Week in Review – February 23, 2015

Let’s take a quick look at what happened in AWS-land last week:

Monday, February 23	We launched a Cost Explorer Update, with More Filtering and Grouping Dimensions. We announced support for Data Pipeline Roles and Tags, along with some Security Improvements. We announced that the EC2 Container Service is now Available in the US West (Oregon) Region. A post on the AWS DevOps Blog discussed Scheduling Automatic Deletion of Application Environments. The AWS Partner Network Blog announced a New Line-of-Business AWS Test Drive – Available from APN Advanced Technology Partner Acumatica. Jose Pettoruti (jep3.net) wrote about earning A+ SSL rating from your ELBs in Early 2015.
Tuesday, February 24	A post on the Right Brain Networks Engineering Blog proclaimed HAQM Web Services and Go – Feel the Love. We announced that Oracle Linux is now Available in the AWS Marketplace. AWS Evangelist Ian Massingham uploaded a new Cost Optimization on AWS Video. Christopher Coleman published An Interim Solution for Elastic Beanstalk Deployment Failures. An article from elbuo talked about Super-powered AWS Lambdas and the Lambda-Runtime version router. The AWS Ruby Development Blog published Part 3 of the series on the HAQM Document API, with a focus on Update Expressions. Tim Bell (:HIPSTER_DEV_BLOG) published Part 1 of a pair of posts on Exporting and Analysing CloudWatch Logs With Data Pipeline and EMR. We updated the AWS SDK for Ruby, the AWS CLI, the AWS SDK for Java, the AWS Tools for Windows PowerShell, the AWS SDK for .Net, and the AWS SDK for JavaScript.
Wednesday, February 25	A post in the AWS Mobile Development Blog announced that the AWS Mobile SDK for Android now uses 40% less DEX Methods. The HAQM Mobile App Distribution Blog invited you to the Build a Game Challenge with Scirra’s Construct 2. The AWS Windows and .NET Developer Blog talked about Clock-skew Correction as it relates to the AWS SDK for .NET. The RightScale Blog announced New RightScale Features: AWS Reserved Instances Utilization and More.
Thursday, February 26	We launched New Elastic Balancer Load Checks for AWS Trusted Advisor. We launched Custom ODBC/JDBC Drivers and Query Visualization for HAQM Redshift. As noted in the AWS Mobile Development Blog, the AWS Mobile SDK for Unity now Supports HAQM Mobile Analytics. The AWS Java Blog showed you how to Create, Update, and Delete Global Secondary Indexes Using the HAQM DynamoDB document API. The AWS Security Blog invited you to Test Your Managed Policies by Using the Identity and Access Management Policy Simulator. The AWS Startup Collection turned the Startup Spotlight on recent fundings and exits from Gilt Groupe, Twilio, Shopa, Airbnb, and Grovo. The Cloudlytics Blog listed 5 Reasons Why CloudTrail is your Best Resource for AWS Security. The Evident.io Blog published Top 10 AWS Security Best Practices #3 – Reduce Number of IAM Users with Admin Rights. We added Two New Functions to the Route 53 API.
Friday, February 27	A post on the Cloud Academy Blog covered Getting Started with Alfresco on HAQM Web Services. Long-time AWS user Chris Moyer announced that he is working on an EC2 Container Service Console App for Chrome. New products added to AWS Marketplace include HUBzero Platform for Scientific Computing. The Cloudability Blog invited you to Drill into Your AWS Instance Usage with new Reporting Dimensions. Microsoft TechNet published an AWS Route 53 Nslookup PowerShell Script. The AWS Big Data Blog showed you how to Use IPython Notebook to Analyze Data with HAQM EMR.
Saturday, February 28	We updated the AWS SDK for Android.
Sunday, March 1	Tim Bell published Part 2 of his series on Exporting and Analysing CloudWatch Logs With Data Pipeline and EMR.
