AWS Week in Review – October 20, 2014

Let’s take a quick look at what happened in AWS-land last week:

Monday, October 20	We provided some options for Fast, Easy, Free Data Sync from RDS MySQL to HAQM Redshift. The AWS Java Blog published Part 2 of a series aimed at Introducing DynamoDB Document API. The AWS Windows and .NET Developer Blog kicked off a series of articles on HAQM DynamoDB with a look at the Low-Level APIs in the DynamoDB SDK. The Evident.io Blog talked about Defending Against AWS Account Takeover Using ESP. A post on the ElasticBox Blog is Calling all AWS CloudFormation Users.
Tuesday, October 21	We talked about Next Generation Genomics with AWS. We announced that you can now Speak to HAQM Kinesis with Python . We published a Kinesis Storm Spout Update with Support for Ack/Fail Semantics. We published a new white paper HAQM Kinesis and Apache Storm – Building a Real-Time Sliding-Window Dashboard over Streaming Data. We announced a CloudWatch Update – Enhanced Support for Windows Log Files. The AWS DevOps Blog reviewed this feature in a post titled Using CloudWatch Logs with HAQM EC2 Running Microsoft Windows Server. We launched a CloudFront Update, with Trends, Metrics, Charts, and More Timely Logs. We launched the New AWS Directory Service. We announced that you can now See the last Sign-In Time for a User in the IAM Console. The AWS Big Data Blog showed you how to Install Apache Spark on an HAQM EMR Cluster. The AWS Windows and .NET Developer Blog continued their DynamoDB series with a look at the DynamoDB Document Model. The AWS Mobile Development Blog unveiled Maven Support in the AWS Mobile SDK for Android. The AWS Startup Collection showed you how to Search CloudTrail Logs Easily With HAQM CloudSearch. The Flux7 Blog showed you how to Handle multiple AWS accounts conveniently using AWS.
Wednesday, October 22	We announced three more AWS Community Heroes: Ryan Park, Lynn Langit, and Larry Ogrodnek. The AWS Ruby Development Blog talked about Caching the Rails Asset Pipeline with HAQM CloudFront. The AWS Windows and .NET Developer Blog discussed DynamoDB Conversion Schemas. The AWS Mobile Development Blog showed you how to use HAQM Cognito in your Node.js Web App. A post on the Trend Micro Blog discussed the important concept of Cloud Security: Shared Responsibiity in Action.
Thursday, October 23	We announced a New AWS Region in Germany (Frankfurt). As part of this launch we updated the EC2 Public IP Address Ranges. We announced that MLB.com Statcast Debuts at the World Series – Powered by AWS. We announced OpenID Connect Support for HAQM Cognito. The AWS Windows and .NET Developer Blog discussed the DynamoDB Persistence Model. The AWS Startup Collection talked about DevOps Backup in HAQM EC2. An informative post on the Instagram Engineering Blog talked about Migrating from AWS to AWS. The Gathering Clouds Blog talked about DevOps And High Availability When Deploying with AWS.
Friday, October 24	We announced Multi-AZ Support and Auto Failover for HAQM ElastiCache for Redis. The AWS Big Data Blog talked about Building Multi-AZ or Multi-Region HAQM Redshift Clusters. The AWS Windows and .NET Developer Blog wrapped up their five-part DynamoDB series with an article on DynamoDB Expressions. David Linthicum of Cloud Technology Partners interviewed me for Episode 54 of his podcast. We chatted about my career, AWS news, re:Invent, and the need for an agile adoption model of cloud technology. We added new AWS Customer Succcess Stories from City of Asheville, North Carolina (DR), GeoNet (earthquake notification), Haven Power (DR, billing, and data warehousing), and Kenshoo (automated social media marketing). Redditor Jason Chan posted a very handy list of AWS Security Resources.
