AWS Week in Review – September 29, 2014

Let’s take a quick look at what happened in AWS-land last week:

Monday, September 29	We published a New Quick Start – Windows PowerShell Desired State Configuration (DSC) on AWS. We announced that Cloudformation Support for ELB, CloudFront, OpsWorks, and SNS has been updated. We announced that Version 2 of the AWS Mobile SDK is now Generally Available. We announced that HAQM Cognito now Includes Enhanced Identity Support. We updated the EC2 Public IP Address Ranges. There are now 9,437,992 IP addresses in the public AWS Regions. The announcement also notes that one of the existing /16 ranges in the US East (Northern Virginia) Regions will be split in to a pair of /17’s, one of which will be moving to the Asia Pacific (Tokyo) Region. The AWS Startup Collection told us What’s Hot at the AWS Pop-up Loft in October.
Tuesday, September 30	We announced that HAQM CloudWatch Logs are now Available in the US West (Oregon) and EU West (Ireland) Regions. We announced that HAQM AppStream is now Available in Japan. We announced that AWS Elastic Beanstalk now Supports IAM Users and Federated Roles. The Gathering Clouds blog kicked off a planned 10-part series on DevOps with an article on Scalability in Cloud Computing: Old Problems With New Solutions.
Wednesday, October 1	We published a second EC2 Maintenance Update. We announced that HAQM Elastic Transcoder now Supports Smooth Streaming.
Thursday, October 2	We announced Setup Enhancements for AWS Management Portal for vCenter. The AWS Big Data Blog showed you how to do Statistical Analysis with Open-Source R and RStudio on HAQM EMR. The AWS Startup Collection talked to Affinio and learned about Discovering Niche Communities Online. The AWS Windows and .NET Developer Blog talked about the new HAQM Cognito Credentials Provider in the AWS SDK for .NET. The Cloudability Blog shared how they Saved 64% on our Dev/Test Instances by Scheduling our Uptime. They also published the code on GitHub as Cloudability Valet. The Netflix Tech Blog talked about their response to the EC2 reboot A State of Xen – Chaos Monkey & Cassandra. A post on the Originate Developer Blog showed you how to Deploy Play Framework on AWS OpsWorks.
Friday, October 3	We added new AWS Customer Succcess Stories from Aldebaran Robotics (companion robots), Fujitsu RunMyProcess (business workflow), Spuul (video streaming), and Vivaki (big data for ad campaign management). Last week AWS Marketplace added new products including new service types from SAP and Telestream Vantage Cloud Domain.
