Introducing the AWS Well-Architected Video Streaming Advertising Lens

At HAQM Web Services (AWS), we are delighted to introduce the AWS Well-Architected Video Streaming Advertising (VSA) Lens. The VSA Lens consists of a Lens whitepaper and a custom lens, which will become available in the Lens Catalog of the AWS Well-Architected Tool. Contact your account representative for access today.

The VSA Lens, the first of a series, extends the AWS Well-Architected Framework, which helps AWS customers and partners improve their cloud architectures and reduce their technical risk. It provides architectural best practices for customers to design and operate ultra-high throughput Video Streaming Advertising workloads on AWS. The VSA Lens is based on six pillars:

  1. Operational Excellence
  2. Security
  3. Reliability
  4. Performance Efficiency
  5. Cost Optimization
  6. Sustainability

The first edition of the VSA Lens include prescriptive guidance on attribution and ad verification software. Additionally, these updates incorporate high availability solutions and cutting-edge artificial intelligence and machine learning (AI/ML) tools. Furthermore, the revisions address strategies for managing data transfer costs and optimizing load balancing for fluctuating real-time advertising traffic.

This whitepaper provides an overview of the VSA Lens, and demonstrates how to add the VSA Lens to a workload review in the AWS Well-Architected tool.

What’s new in the Video Streaming Advertising Lens?

  1. Aligning advertising business goals of operating advertising workloads for ad servers, SSPs (supply side platform), and DSPs (demand side platform).
  2. The process for evaluating and updating your advertising campaign priorities and organizational structure.
  3. Risk assessment and automated mitigation for advertising.
  4. Automating ad serving infrastructure deployments to reduce the risk of manual errors.
  5. Establish performance metrics—define KPIs (key performance indicators) and SLOs (service level objectives) for each advertising process and procedure.
  6. Provide best practices and implementation guidance—notably, it provides you with actionable guidance that you can use to improve your workloads in the areas that matter most to your business.
  7. Architectures and links—many new documents, blogs, instructional and video links have been provided to reflect a host of new products, features, and current industry best practices to assist with your advertising projects.

Who should use the VSA Lens?

The VSA Lens is useful for many roles, including:

  • Business Leaders: To widen your appreciation of the end-to-end implementation
  • Chief Technology Officers: To understand how to use the new AWS services and implementation guidance
  • Solution Architects: To learn how to build solutions in alignment with the tenets of the AWS Well-Architected Framework
  • Operations Teams: To monitor and manage innovative infrastructures that drive the operation of a broader range of advertising workloads
  • Security Teams: To enhance advertising workloads with robust security requirements

Conclusion

The new VSA Lens is available now. Use the Lens whitepaper to improve your advertising workloads according the tenets of the AWS Well-Architected Framework. Applying the VSA Lens to your architecture can help you validate the stability and efficiency of your design, and get recommendations to address the gaps identified in the assessment.

AWS is dedicated to continuously evolving the Advertising Lens as a dynamic tool. As new AWS services are launched, industry trends shift, and additional pillars (such as sustainability) are incorporated, we will promptly update the VSA Lens to reflect these changes. Our mission will always be to help you design and deploy well-architected advertising workloads so that you can focus on delivering your business objectives.

Special thanks to everyone across the AWS Enterprise Support, AWS Solution Architecture, AWS Professional Services, and Advertising communities, who contributed to the Lens. These contributions encompassed a wide cross-section of perspectives, expertise, backgrounds, and experiences in developing the new AWS Well-Architected VSA Lens.
