Announcing the public preview of HAQM Elastic VMware Service (HAQM EVS)

When we introduced HAQM Elastic VMware Service (HAQM EVS) at AWS re:Invent 2024, customers were eager to learn more about this new pathway to leverage existing VMware tools, skillsets, and licensing investments in combination with the scalability, resilience, and performance of AWS. Over the past six months we’ve engaged dozens of partners and customers to enhance the service capabilities and today, we’re excited to share that we are expanding access to the service through a public preview of HAQM EVS.

Building on our long-standing commitment for VMware customers

This public preview builds upon our long-standing commitment to help you run your VMware-based workloads on AWS. Over the years, thousands of organizations have successfully used Broadcom’s VMware Cloud on AWS managed service to extend and expand their on-premises datacenters, implement cloud-based disaster recovery, or accelerate their migration to the cloud. HAQM EVS adds new capabilities that allow you to natively run VMware Cloud Foundation (VCF) directly within your HAQM Virtual Private Cloud (HAQM VPC).

We think of HAQM EVS as a primitive service, a building block that allows you to run your workloads just as you’ve traditionally done on-premises, or that partners can use to build managed services or migrations offerings. To that end, we’ve been working closely with our AWS Partner Network (APN) community to integrate their services and technology solutions with HAQM EVS. We’re thankful for the effort these partners are putting in to building and testing their offerings with HAQM EVS and are looking forward to sharing more soon.

Expanding access with public preview

In public preview, you can use HAQM EVS to deploy your VMware-based workloads in any of the five supported regions:

  • US East (N. Virginia)
  • US East (Ohio)
  • US West (Oregon)
  • Asia Pacific (Tokyo)
  • and Europe (Frankfurt)

During this phase, you can leverage your VCF license portability entitlements and migrate non-production workloads to HAQM EVS. The service provides the same user experience and functionality that will be available at general availability, including the ability to:

  • Migrate workloads without need to re-platform or change hypervisors
  • Provision and configure environments through a step-by-step workflow on the AWS console
  • Automatically deploy a fully functional VCF environment on AWS
  • Optimize a virtualization stack on AWS by bringing familiar VCF tools and preferred external storage solutions including HAQM FSx for NetApp ONTAP

At public preview and general availability, HAQM EVS supports VCF 5.2.1 and i4i.metal instances. We plan to expand our VCF version, licensing, and instance type support in future releases.
