Food insecurity app built by UC Berkeley students wins national app-building competition
Modo Labs®, an AWS Advanced Technology partner and creator of the no-code app building platform for higher education and enterprises, announced the winner of the 2019 national student Ideathon competition. The winning app, Bear Appétit, tackles food insecurity by facilitating the anonymous donation of meal swipes from those who have swipes to share to those that need them, and connecting those in need to resources such as the food pantry and food assistance programs.
AWS Educate releases new cloud resources for entrepreneurs and startups
AWS Educate, in collaboration with HAQM Web Services (AWS) Startups, launched a new AWS Startups Badge for aspiring entrepreneurs to learn how to turn a startup idea into reality through the cloud. The AWS Startups Badge offers AWS Educate members real-world application and use cases to help students jumpstart and scale their deployment efforts.

AWS Field Trip at re:Invent 2019 inspires local high school students to pursue cloud computing
Last week at AWS re:Invent, students from a local Las Vegas high school and students who traveled in from the United Kingdom (UK) participated in an AWS Field Trip to get inspired and excited to pursue science, technology, engineering and math (STEM) careers through a day of fun, hands-on engagements with technology.
Partnership of the year awarded to Virginia schools and AWS Educate for creating Cloud Degree Programs
Education Dive announced George Mason University (GMU), Northern Virginia Community College (NOVA), and AWS Educate earned the Higher Ed “Partnership of the Year” award for collaborating to launch a two and four-year cloud degree pathway. Education Dive, a digital publication for the education industry, gives out the annual Dive Awards to the industry’s top innovators for their efforts to shape the future of education.
Students across Arizona participate in a statewide robotics hackathon
In collaboration with HAQM Web Services (AWS) and NVIDIA, Arizona State University (ASU) hosted its first-ever robotics hackathon. At the Arizona Robo Hackathon, 64 undergraduate and graduate students across seven institutions came together to compete in an Arizona statewide competition hosted on AWS. By the end of the hackathon, students successfully applied their knowledge of computer science, engineering, and programming skills in robotics and artificial intelligence (AI) application development.
FIRST® connects K12 students to cloud services for robotics competitions through AWS Educate
HAQM Web Services (AWS) and FIRST®, a global robotics community, launched an initiative to provide students with cloud-related learning content and resources on subjects from storage to machine learning. The AWS Educate program, featuring computer science and cloud content, is now available to all volunteer mentors and students ages 14 and up participating in FIRST Robotics Competition and FIRST Tech Challenge.
From learning to earning: AWS Educate announces collaboration with Chegg
Chegg, an educational software company, and HAQM Web Services (AWS) Educate launched a new initiative to help accelerate a student’s time from learning to earning. Through this collaboration, Chegg students can take skill assessments that identify potential skill gaps and connect them to appropriate AWS Educate cloud curricula – helping better prepare them for high-demand jobs in cloud computing. This partnership brings AWS Educate resources to Chegg’s 14 million (and growing) student membership.
Teaching the next generation of cloud professionals during the Hour of Code
The Hour of Code is coming! HAQM Future Engineer, HAQM Web Services, and AWS Educate are supporting HAQMians across the globe as they inspire kids to try computer science through Code.org’s Hour of Code – both powered by AWS. The Hour of Code takes place during Computer Science Education Week, December 9 to 15.
