Bridging the cloud skills gap across Asia Pacific and Japan with AWS
The Asia Pacific and Japan (APJ) region is riding a wave of innovation, which relies heavily on a digital workforce equipped to meet the rising demand for cloud computing. Today, AWS announced that we have trained more than two million people across APJ with cloud skills in the past decade. To accelerate this, we launched AWS Skill Builder, a digital learning experience available in more than 200 countries and territories, which will provide free skills training to millions of people around the world, in addition to other training programs.
Supporting our Veterans through training, workforce development, and hiring
Earlier this year, HAQM pledged to hire 100,000 veterans and military spouses by 2024. This is an increase of our previous commitment to hire 25,000 veterans and military spouses by 2021—a goal we’ve already surpassed, with about 40,000 currently working for HAQM. At AWS, we are committed to developing and hiring veterans and their spouses into roles focused on STEM. Check out the multiple programs, trainings, and resources available for veterans and spouses.
Helping nonprofits become data driven to better deliver services with AWS DigiNPO
To help empower nonprofits to become data-driven organizations, HAQM Web Services (AWS) launched a pilot program for charities and nonprofit organizations in Canada called AWS DigiNPO. AWS DigiNPO is a program designed to raise awareness of the cloud as a tool for charities and nonprofit organizations to more effectively deliver community-centric services and identify new opportunities for innovation and growth.
Idaho collaborates with AWS on statewide cloud computing training and education effort
Idaho Governor Brad Little announced an initiative between AWS and the Idaho STEM Action Center that will support instructors through training and professional development to teach cloud computing courses throughout the state. The collaboration will provide Idahoans an opportunity to reskill or upskill in high demand cloud computing courses and certifications, and support the local economy by filling high demand cloud computing jobs with local employers.
Indiana and Ivy Tech Community College collaborate with AWS to provide tech training to 5,000 residents
The Indiana Department of Workforce Development (DWD) has been focused on preparing citizens for the growing tech, IT, and cloud industries. Collaborating with Ivy Tech and HAQM Web Services will help reach more learners and accelerate economic growth by fueling the state’s tech industry with skilled talent.
Coming soon: AWS launching new Region in Spain by mid-2022
Located in Aragon, the new AWS Europe (Spain) Region will consist of three Availability Zones, giving organizations of all sizes—from startups to enterprises and public sector—access to local infrastructure, while meeting the highest security standards, regulations and data protection, reducing latency, increasing security, improving scalability, and boosting innovation and digital transformation in Spain.
Governor Kemp announces technical skills training commitment to prepare 5,500 Georgia residents for cloud computing careers
Georgia has been at the forefront of a booming technology sector. Forbes named Atlanta one of the 5 U.S. Cities Poised to Become Tomorrow’s Tech Mecca, a city where the number of tech jobs have grown 46 percent since 2010. This new initiative put forward by the Technical College System of Georgia (TCSG), the Georgia Department of Education (GADOE), the Technology Association of Georgia (TAG), and HAQM Web Services (AWS) will help support the growth trajectory of Georgia’s technology sector, address both the opportunities and challenges presented by the pandemic, and ensure that training, curriculum, and jobsearch support opportunities are available to rural communities.
CEU Universities in Spain join AWS Partners to skill next generation of cloud experts
CEU Universities launched the first cloud computing program in Spain, in collaboration with AWS, to create pathways for students into cloud technology careers. CEU is working with key organizations as part of an initiative called CEU Tech 4 Good to develop student talent through mentoring sessions and internships. This hands-on experience will help prepare students to pursue cloud-related job opportunities when an AWS Region opens in Spain in late 2022 or early 2023.

New report: Asia Pacific workforce applying digital skills will need to increase five-fold by 2025
This week, AWS released the report, “Unlocking APAC’s Digital Potential: Changing Digital Skill Needs and Policy Approaches.” Prepared by strategy and economics consulting firm AlphaBeta and commissioned by AWS, the report analyzes the digital skills applied by workers in their jobs today and the digital skills required by workforces over the next five years. The report focuses on six Asia Pacific countries: Singapore, Australia, India, Indonesia, Japan, and South Korea.
