Harnessing the power of generative AI in AWS GovCloud
In this post, we explore how generative artificial intelligence (AI), powered by services such as HAQM Bedrock and HAQM SageMaker, can be harnessed to meet the unique challenges of AWS GovCloud (US). We highlight use cases that demonstrate the potential of generative AI to enhance efficiency, automate workflows, and extract insights—all within a secure, compliant framework.
Complying with updated NIH Genomic Data Sharing policies on AWS
The National Institutes of Health (NIH) has long maintained guidelines governing the responsible management of controlled access human genomic and phenotypic data maintained in NIH-designated data repositories. Recently, the NIH updated these guidelines to align with the NIST SP 800-171 security standard, which defines a comprehensive framework for securing Controlled Unclassified Information (CUI). In this blog post, we will explore the specifics of the updated NIH guidance and outline how HAQM Web Services (AWS) can help customers build a compliant environment to meet these requirements.

Powering Singapore’s genomic research with AWS and Illumina
Precision medicine is a data-driven approach that considers individual variations in genetics to allow healthcare professionals to more accurately predict, prevent, diagnose, or treat different groups of people. As part of ongoing research to advance genomic research in Singapore, companies like HAQM Web Services (AWS) and Illumina play a pivotal role in genome sequencing and analysis, and providing the tools and technology needed to analyse large-scale genomic datasets to help decode the risk factors for certain Asian-specific chronic diseases.
AWS Verified Access in a TIC 3.0 architecture
Federal agencies can use HAQM Web Services (AWS) to meet Trusted Internet Connections (TIC) 3.0 requirements. To facilitate this, AWS has published detailed architectural overlays that demonstrate how to effectively implement TIC 3.0 guidelines within AWS deployments. AWS Verified Access (AVA) is a cloud-based service that enables secure access to applications without requiring the use of a virtual private network (VPN). It evaluates each application request and gives users access to each application only when they meet the specified security requirements. AVA supports TIC 3.0 requirements in the areas of configuration management, centralized log management, strong authentication features, resilience, and policy enforcement. Because of this, at AWS re:Invent 2024 we announced a commitment of up to $2 million in AWS credits to help four Advanced Research Projects Agency for Health (ARPA-H) Sprint for Women’s Health launchpad awardees address critical unmet challenges in women’s health.
AWS announces Satellite Resiliency for AWS Outposts
Satellite Resiliency for AWS Outposts offers a comprehensive, Partner-managed solution for resilient cloud-connected edge computing that extends the reach of HAQM Web Services (AWS) to the most remote and geographically dispersed environments on earth. AWS Outposts typically run connected to a parent AWS Region for resource management, access control, and software updates. When terrestrial network connectivity between an Outpost and its parent AWS Region is unavailable, this solution routes traffic back to the parent Region over a Low Earth Orbit (LEO) satellite connection, supporting business continuity and data residency requirements.
