UVA’s Cyber & AWS Cloud Essentials Bootcamp brought together a diverse group of students, primarily from computer science and engineering backgrounds, for an experience that went far beyond traditional classroom learning. “As an aspiring Software Engineer, I have heard of AWS Cloud being essential in this new era of technology,” shares Samriddhi Kumar, a second-year Computer Science major. “Learning about the AWS Cloud Practitioner Certification was a perfect gateway to expand my skill set.”

“When speaking with various local companies during the mini career fair, I saw the variety of fields and jobs you can go into with knowledge of the AWS Cloud and cybersecurity,” reflects Pallavi Mamillapalli, another second-year Computer Science major. This exposure to practical applications and career opportunities proved invaluable for participants.

Michelle Monge, a fourth-year Electrical Engineering major, emphasized the collaborative atmosphere: “I enjoyed learning about how people, processes, and technology fit in different respects. It was incredibly refreshing working together as a team in such a supportive environment.”

For many participants, the bootcamp opened their eyes to the vast possibilities in cloud computing. “It is so much more expansive and limitless than I thought!” exclaims Lilli Hrncir, a third-year double major in Computer Science and Japanese. Cherry Lin, a second-year Computer Science major, noted that the program was “a stellar opportunity for beginners and experienced students interested in technology, and those interested in topics beyond that because AWS is becoming increasingly versatile and relevant!”
