Best of its kind

  • October 20, 2018
  • Review provided by G2

What do you like best about the product?
Every day I log on to the Linux server to accomplish my tasks, which consists of making a report and getting direct access to the Internet. RedHat Linux is widely used among many of my clients, so it helps me to improve my services. We have configured authentication to a Windows Active Directory, which is useful in a mixed environment. The guide and platform are very good. The possibility of piracy of this operating system is bad (if used for bad purposes), but piracy is what other Red Hat and Fedora derivatives are for.
What do you dislike about the product?
It's probably good for network administrators aimed for greater protection, but it is able to appear as a daunting mission for newcomers. I guess the price is usually an unpleasant thing, as Redhat is expected to compete with many unbuttoned distributions. The PC doesn't start anymore. It's not a nuisance, but it's not worth it that organizations implementing RHEL also require specific RHEL certifications before allowing you to touch the hardware, even if you're familiar with different distributions. There's nothing I don't like about Red Hat Enterprise Linux.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
I have used it as a server in my organization. With the general report it has been very easy compared to others, easily scalable, I use RHEL for every server facet need, for virtualization, Linux shell scripts and other servers.
Recommendations to others considering the product:
If this is a reliable support for Linux systems, you can choose between RHEL and Suse.

What do you like best about the product?
What do you dislike about the product?
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Recommendations to others considering the product:
Mejoras y unificación de administración en los servicios que incorpora.

Linux, but with (paid) support!

What do you like best about the product?
RHEL is just the same open-source Linux you can get from everybody else, but it comes with support. That's very important for companies running mission critical systems that need someone to talk to whenever a problem arises, and they will do their best to find a solution as soon as possible.
RHEL also ensures that the software it bundles is tested and supported, so everything is usually working as you would expect. Their long term support usually lasts more than 10 years, so you really don't have to rush upgrading to the next version, and you'll have plenty of time to plan for the updates.
What do you dislike about the product?
Having used Debian, or Debian-based distributions like Ubuntu for the most time, I sometimes find RHEL not so confortable when compared to these other Linux distributions. Things like the package manager (dnf), location of configuration files, or internal system utilities are, in my opinion, more cumbersome than the Debian counterpart.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
We use RHEL in some of our servers, where we host our customers' applications. We need a stable, supported environment, where fault-tolerance and high-availability are a must.
Between all the big commercial Linux vendors (SLES, Oracle, etc) we chose RedHat because it was, for us, the most popular one and also it was offered by one of our clould providers.
We don't use RHEL in our workstations, though.
Recommendations to others considering the product:
Since 2016, there exists a "no-cost" licensed RHEL version. It comes with no support, of course, and you can't use it for commercial purposes, but at least it is a way for you to evaluate the product and decide if it fits your needs before paying for it. If paid support is not that important for you, be aware that some open-source, free of charge, derivative distributions, also exist.

One of the best Linux distributions for businesses

  • August 10, 2018
  • Review provided by G2

What do you like best about the product?
Redhat is one of the best operational solutions for more robust companies available on the market today. Along with the ability to enhance the operating system's security to the configuration recommended by current programs. The recommended CIS security configuration is what further strengthens its security and privacy posture.
What do you dislike about the product?
Linux has many options and configurations, in which if you have very little experience, it is very difficult. When done correctly, it can be trial and error if you are learning, and the community does not provide advice like Windows does, which means there are many resources available, as well as support from different providers. To improve the aforementioned, it is advisable to subscribe to a support channel.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Important CIS templates can be configured and Linux security can be configured if the software allows it.
Recommendations to others considering the product:
A lot of security and configurations available in this easy-to-use operating system.

Better than the Rest - Linux Edition

  • August 05, 2018
  • Review provided by G2

What do you like best about the product?
RHEL's interface makes it easy to navigate. It almost feels as if the developers of this Linux platform kept user experience in mind. Many of its built-in programs are easily navigable. Perhaps this comes more naturally to a developer whose first Linux system is not RHEL, but it does maintain all the functionalities of a Linux environment for a developer looking to code in practically any language (C++, Python, Java, etc). It is a stable Linux platform with security and speed.
What do you dislike about the product?
Price is a disadvantage of RHEL. It is not like other Linux distributions that are similar to RHEL and free. If you do not need RHEL and are not working on projects that require its robust attributes, then consider other Linux systems. In addition, getting certain packages on a RHEL system can be frustrating, especially if you lack the initial experience with Linux environments.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
WIth RHEL, we are creating tools that will help management compile data on how well their developers are doing. Developers work in a Linux environment using RHEL. The system provides the security that the developers require to do their end of the work.
Recommendations to others considering the product:
Do not start with RHEL if you are inexperienced with Linux. If your company does not need RHEL, do not invest in it. However, if you are looking for security and sturdiness, then RHEL is one of the best Linux distributions to exist.
