Easy to get started
What do you like best about the product?
The best part is that sources and destinations can be added at any point without engineering resources.
What do you dislike about the product?
Additional workspaces are required in order to have separate dev, testing, staging, and production environments.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
This allows marketing people to do their thing and try things out without consuming engineering resources.
Recommendations to others considering the product:
Segment is a good choice to do some standard data capture and allow non-technical team members to update destinations and integrated software.

Save time, effort, a good tool
What do you like best about the product?
At its core, the promise is unified user-level analytics. And that's delivered.
On top of that though, is a product that technical leads are usually ok with, since it saves them time and resources as well. It's hard to argue against the cost/benefit, and the possibility of building your own with their open source repos is always there.

What do you dislike about the product?
I think the pricing model is an issue for businesses with a lot of anonymous traffic if they want to use the managed analytics.js though Segment.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
As a consultant, it's a very interesting tool because it brings business, marketing and technical teams together.
The core promise to each of those groups is already a huge benefit ( Business: unified analytics & data, Marketing: faster/better/more relevant personalised comms, Technical: the last 3rd party API you'll integrate).
But, apart from that, a lot of synergies and catalysts for growth have come from these teams being able to work together and have a common ground for making/discussing/weighing up decisions.

Recommendations to others considering the product:
There are other options in terms of products you can pay for, but doing it yourself using the open source tools made available by Segment is also an option.
Paying for Segment is still a great choice, and a no brainer for businesses past a particular size.
Segment is great when you have a way to identify your users. If you have a lot of anonymous traffic you will not get the most benefit out of Segment.

What do you like best about the product?
If you quickly want to get started with connecting multiple tools together, Segment can help you get this done.
What do you dislike about the product?
Some of the integrations that Segment supports don't follow the best practices of the specific vendors.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
We're able to more quickly analyze data because the setup of Segment takes less time with multiple tools in your toolset than it would with a different setup.
Absolutely necessary for any tech company with a modern data stack
What do you like best about the product?
Once you install Segment you can send choose your downstream services in one slick and remove engineering from the mix as you add on more tools and services.
What do you dislike about the product?
Some of the best features are only available on the business plan which is much more expensive than the team plan.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Unifying all of our user and analytics data transmission between tools, allowing us flexibility to choose the right tools with limited spin-up time, making it much quicker to add tracking and test before deploying.
Recommendations to others considering the product:
Must have from day one as you create your tracking plan and build your data stack.
Segment is the core tool I use for all my client Customer Journey Optimization projects
What do you like best about the product?
I think the Personas product is a game changer to help in alleviating the reliance on developer involvement for Customer Journey Optimization
What do you dislike about the product?
The pricing can be a little challenging for non-enterprise companies
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
The key to the methodology I employ with my clients is to empower non-technical team members to experiment and iterate without developer involvement. Segment is core to this strategy as once the data is pushed to segment, it can be pushed to anywhere else without developer involvement.
Added clarity to a confusing situation
What do you like best about the product?
I love how clean and simple the interface is. Setup is so easy, I got up and running within minutes. Without segment, our CRM platform would have no real idea of the difference between customers and leads. It allowed us to connect our WooCommerce store to our Intercom customer engagement platform.
What do you dislike about the product?
The MTU limit is a bit too low. Also, there's no mid-tier pricing for less than 10,000 MTU, and therefore the first payment package (Team, up to 10K MTU) is a bit too high for my needs. It's the only reason I've not been able to buy it yet. I don't need spaces for 10 people, there's just me, so I feel like I'm being forced to pay $120/m for features and seats I honestly don't need.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
The MTU limit, too low for the Developer version, and there's no solo package for Segment, as far as I see. Pricing is my biggest, and only issue, with Segment. It locked my workspace because I exceeded the MTU limit more than twice in the last 6 months, but what am I to do? I can't stop users from coming but I've only had 549 users over the last month. I don't see why I need to upgrade to a plan that caters to 10,000 of them. I suppose that's my main difficulty with the product.
Recommendations to others considering the product:
Just prepare yourself for a price. We offer quite unique products so we don't expect millions of users, but we do cross 500 a month occasionally. If you do too, and you need Segment, it's probably going to be a heavy investment. IT starts at $120/m for 10 seats at my time of writing. Additional MTU over 10,000 is going to cost you even more.
Implement once, unlock broad functionality
What do you like best about the product?
Once you have Segment implemented in your codebase, it's extremely easy to add new destinations via their GUI to pass that data to other tools, e.g. Appcues for personalization, Amplitude for analysis, Zapier for automation, or Snowflake for warehousing. Some tools allow you to install via Segment, meaning you don't need to inject any additional JavaScript on your site. Whenever you can get something done without code, it's a product manager superpower.
What do you dislike about the product?
My main complaint seems to be one that Segment is already aware of and working to address. We have the ability to filter based on events, but it sounds like they want to add filters for property at some point as well. That's the beauty of SaaS—the product gets better over time.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
We use Segment to implement our event tracking, which in turn powers our funnel analysis and our persona definitions, among other things. Segment events help populate our sales pipeline and allow us to track key conversions and cycle times as well.
Full control data
What do you like best about the product?
Its graphical interface is very well optimized.
What do you dislike about the product?
The cache is sometimes too strong and causes conflicts
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Control the frequency of use of my app and offer products based on tastes
Segment Events Recommend
What do you like best about the product?
Segment is fast for integration, easy to handle and work with. All events are at one place and you can manage them easily.
What do you dislike about the product?
No dislikes for now, a bit more difficulties while trying to connect with Facebook App Events.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
We manage all site standard and custom events via Segment. It's a core tool for our business and help us build and grow massive performance structures trough different marketing channels.
Best analytics aggregator out there
What do you like best about the product?
iOS integration is super easy and it has so many downstream integrations. I particularly like Segment + Apptimize integration for our A/B experiments. Any new events we send to Segment just magically end up on our Apptimize goals which is super handy.
What do you dislike about the product?
Couple of things missing that require us to still have other SDK's / Analytics platforms in place. For example Facebook SDK's `FBSDKAppEvents.activateApp()` and exit links for Adobe Analytics
We've also had at least 2 experiences with our segment service being down for a period of time. They handled it well tho when we spoke to them on the phone. They explained what went wrong, how they are mitigating it from happening again and they were able to replay the missing events for us.

What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Understanding user behaviour so we can understand if the changes we are making result in more or less user engagement
