Great tool but at high price
What do you like best about the product?
Great tool that comes with a lot of connectors and a good customer support. We appreciate that a comprehensive API is avialble because we have a lot of connectors that need to be managed programmatically.
What do you dislike about the product?
Quite expensive compared to compeititors.
Billing process through GCP marketplace is a mess.

Functional tool and great support, but mediocre docs
What do you like best about the product?
Fivetran is easily one of the most robust ETL platforms I've seen and I was tasked with vetting quite a few of them when looking for extraction solutions. They offer a wide variety of data sources and destinations, covering a broader range of integrations that are relevant to our business than many competitors. They are also one of the few providers I've seen that have a decently functional web interface with comparable API capabilities. We use Powered by Fivetran, which enables us to extract data on behalf of clients without storing credentials or creating apps on our end, which is not a use case many providers support. The overall user and developer experiences for authorization via Fivetran are also fairly seamless.
One of the best parts of Fivetran is their support system. My perspective may be biased since my company is on a plan with priority support, but my team has submitted quite a few support tickets and our experience with Fivetran has consistently been far better than our experience with other third-party providers (and we pay for premium support for most partners who offer it). With other partners, we typically run into issues where the first response to a ticket is unhelpful, as lower-level support folks tend to not have the answers we need (or sometimes will provide us with incorrect answers) and we usually have to wait for a ticket to be escalated at least once or twice before we have any resolution. However, most of our Fivetran inquiries and issues have been resolved within 1 or 2 responses, and the level of detail provided is top-notch!

What do you dislike about the product?
Fivetran's documentation is organized in a more intuitive way than that of most software companies, but like many others, the documentation falls out of date quickly and contradicts itself in many locations. Documentation maintenance is difficult, especially when there is so much of it to manage, but we've had several issues where key details are either missing or incorrect (e.g. incorrect connector configs in their API docs, missing data sources on their list of priority-first syncs). The caveat to this is that their support system is great, so we've never had trouble receiving timely responses when we reach out about the discrepancies, but it would be nice to not have to reach out for such trivial questions.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
My company aggregates data from a broad range of data sources and the parts of the integration process that continually proves to be the hardest are authentication and extraction. We don't use Fivetran for transformation, but Powered by Fivetran has allowed us to integrate quickly by eliminating the need to develop apps, build auth flows, and automate API calls.
Solid time saving product
What do you like best about the product?
I like variable pricing as it allows me to reduce or increase sync times based on budget and program needs
What do you dislike about the product?
Fivetran is transparent when things break. Things break a lot. They're repaired promptly but it's an annoyance sometimes
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
I centralize and standardize my data without writing code. It saves me dev time and hours
Data Engineering with Fivetran
What do you like best about the product?
Fivetran helped my data engineering team streamline processes and save valuable time.
What do you dislike about the product?
Would like better documentation. Would recommend video instructions.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
My organization is low on data engineering resources. Fivetran has helped us get more done with the people we have.
A must have for any data engineering stack
What do you like best about the product?
Fivetran takes a few minutes to setup and it just works.
What do you dislike about the product?
I wish it could do bidirectional syncing using the same connector.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Syncing data from various standard data sources into our data lake. We do not have to hire a large staff to build and maintain our data pipelines
Recommendations to others considering the product:
It just works!! and Fivetran should be a part of any Data engineering stack.
Happy Fivetran User
What do you like best about the product?
I like the amount of out of the box connectors that are available to use straight away which comes with step by step instructions on how to easily setup. The support which is available when you need assistance is excellent as well.
What do you dislike about the product?
The enhancement requests process could be a bit better. It is difficult to see where each of the request are at and whether there is any realistic chance of them getting onto the product roadmap.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
We needed a tool which was easy to use and required minimal maintenance and that is exactly what we are getting. We are able to setup data pipelines with ease and quickly.
Recommendations to others considering the product:
Make sure you know what data you are going to consume and plan to consume to ensure you can get an accurate estimate.
Allow analysts to work with the freshest possible data
What do you like best about the product?
The UI. Fivetran interface is very easy to use and Fivetran has a really good support team. We usually receive good response from the support team if issue arises
What do you dislike about the product?
One of the cons of Fivetran is the limitation of existing connectors. There are still a lot of third party connectors that Fivetran should consider building in the future
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
We use Fivetran to help solving the problem of data migration by providing a platform that automates the process of moving data from one place to another. Our business performance is heavily dependent on the data ingested from Fivetran
Spencer Nunn - Red Ventures - Fivetran Review
What do you like best about the product?
Fivetran is intuitive, consistent, and efficient in satisifying our ETL needs. We're able to depend on Fivetran to connect to a majority of our platforms and deliver on our ETL needs in a timely manner.
What do you dislike about the product?
Still lacking in availability of some connectors/destinations. While there's a wide variety of connectors available, we would still like to see others made available (Thinking Verizon Media/Yahoo Advertising as a main one, as well as other major display networks advertisers). Another huge benefit that we could leverage would the be the addition of an HAQM s3 desination (we're currently using the HAQM Redshift destination).
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
One of the major ones for us is the email and SFTP connector functionalities. We work with a lot of partners that deliver .csv files via email/SFTP and previously had a lot of custom, in-house processes built to ingest this data. Moving these processes to Fivetran has been huge for us in simplifying our internal codebase and processes.
excellent tool
What do you like best about the product?
easily we can replicate data. one of the best tool.
What do you dislike about the product?
we cannot use this tool for IBMI data to replicate.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
I am transferring the data from different sources into the destination. very easy process and user friendly tool.
Great plug-ans-play solution for data ingestion
What do you like best about the product?
Th pre-built connectors makes data integration super easy, without the need of an expensive data engineering team. If you are using DBT, there is a DBT package for most of the pre-built connectors that will provide configurable data marts/models.
What do you dislike about the product?
New connectors are released infrequently, and pricing is somewhat opaque if you are not familiar. It is somewhat opinionated, so if you are not already using a modern data stack w. their preferred partners it's a bit harder to integrate.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Deliver value to internal stakeholders quickly, without the need for an expensive data engineering team and stack.
Recommendations to others considering the product:
If starting from scratch, try to ensure you are using the full list of preferred data stack.
