Best vendor experience we've had in a long time.
What do you like best about the product?
Vendor relationships always tend to promise more than they deliver. This is one of the first one that has delivered as much (or more!) than was promised. I'm amazed at the performance of the Algolia system. Blazing fast, accurate, relevant, immediately updated, elegant, easy to implement, a breeze to customize. It really couldn't be much better.
What do you dislike about the product?
Not much. There were a few small gaps in the documentation, but that has been the extent so far of anything negative.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
The motivator for switching to Algolia was the expiration of our Google Search Appliance. However, now that we've switched, I'm wishing we'd made the jump a lot sooner. What a great platform! Our users are experiencing DRAMATIC improvements in search speed and relevance, and we're looking at all sorts of ways to leverage Algolia for other business needs, from personalization to content categorization.

Very easy to start and implement
What do you like best about the product?
- Easy of use. We (2 developers) had no experience with search indexes before, but got up and running in 2 hours, backend and frontend.
- Performance. We still have few users, but searching 15k records takes 4ms on average. 40ms max.
- Pricing is OK. Other search platforms like Elastic Search will cost you less per number of records indexed, but you have to manage more stuff by yourself to keep everything in good shape.

What do you dislike about the product?
Documentation lack some real world examples and best practices, like how to keep a Postgres DB in sync with Algolia.
Free as starter tiers have low records limit (10k and 50k).
We have a few concerns about securing data. Some real case scenarios in the Docs would also help us. Like, what are the guidelines to implement Algolia to index sensitive information?

What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
We have a SaaS and Algolia is currently being used for searching people records. Performance is great.

Recommendations to others considering the product:
If you need a good search and don't have the time or expertise to try Elastic Search, give Algolia a try. It's a lot better than alternatives like SQL search and very easy to implement.
We get amazing search capabilities that wows folks
What do you like best about the product?
We love that it's crazy fast- it's a party trick when we show folks. The results are instantaneous and make our entire site feel faster.
What do you dislike about the product?
The pricing is hard to measure as we grow. While I get sent a lot of information weekly, I can't make sense of how that relates to our traffic. I also find it hard to understand how it works with our caching on our managed hosting. When we have an issue on the site, it's hard to understand where the issue is.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
We have a complex site with many different lines of business. We're able to go across all of the lines as well as specific offerings. We've been able to make some sense of our specific lines of business, but we still have not had any success with folks typing in natural language queries into the system.
Recommendations to others considering the product:
Far easier than trying to roll your own search offering, pricing is tough to understand and plan against (for me, as an executive not a dev)..
Algolia was the solution to our e-commerce search problem
What do you like best about the product?
Great documentation, great explanation of the technology they developed and how it works. Really nice explanation of how they approach high availability
What do you dislike about the product?
Very little downsides. Some implementations can become costly, but this one was not. We really appreciate the development time that went into the Shopify app. Most people just make an app in the Shopify store and leave it, aloglia actually put considerable time into the app and has done a really nice job of improving the app over time.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
We are solving for e-commerce search. Our existing solution had many reliability problems. Greater reliability is the biggest upside.
Recommendations to others considering the product:
Best enterprise-ready solution for Shopify. We like it much better than our current solution. It is lightning fast. Orders of magnitude faster than our current solution.

Search out of the box, just plug a few things here and there and you are done!

Pricing is a bit of a problem, especially, the jump from starter to pro is HUGE!

Even though I have used Algolia before in a variety of different ways, at the moment, most recently I used it to add search to a static website which hosts internal developer docs.
Google-like enterprise search, right out of the box
What do you like best about the product?
Algolia is so easy to use that it makes implementing enterprise search an absolute breeze. It offers us almost all of the benefits of elasticsearch, but in a turnkey solution.
What do you dislike about the product?
Nothing, so far. Elasticsearch is more configurable but we find that we're happy with trading off some of that control for ease of implementation/administration.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
We're dedicated to shipping low-latency solutions throughout our product suite, so Algolia's speed, combined with things like its typo-tolerance features, makes it very user-friendly.

What do you like best about the product?
I am not a developer, but my team had a pretty much hustle free time implementing the software and get it running in 2 different applications. As we are only a very small team, time to market is very critical. The WOW effect kicks in when you start the search and get the instant results in a matter of a blink. The true beauty unfolds as you can easily modify the search in the Admin Dashboard. So you don't have to bother your developers any more. The application is reasonable priced and I can not image how we would do without it. We had a custom build search implemented in our application but those are anything near of what Algolia is capable of. The user experience on http://www.solartraders.com for our customers is on another level now.

Maybe the could refine a bit the dependencies of the filters.

If you need search on your application, use Algolia!
It is incredible fast and reliable and time to market for deployment is very fast.
For a simple search without filters you are done in a couple of hours. For a search including filters (depending on complexity) calculate 2-4 days.

Cant really help here as I have not used other saas for search.
Though before you build your own search, think about all the advantages wich you will gain by using Algolia. Even if you just need search for your backend administration and so on.

An essential tool for search heavy sites and tools.
What do you like best about the product?
Algolia is incredibly fast to execute searches, often results return in just a few milliseconds. Setup was quite easy, even given the technical overhead involved, since the API and docs are clear and to the point. It has out of the box compatibility with VueJS which I love, so that is appreciated. The default widgets provided are easy to customize and it's not too hard to make your own when needed. There are plugins for Wordpress and other CMSs for those that use them.
I'd also counterpoint to anyone who mentions price as a negative. I would challenge anyone to show me they can even setup the raw infrastructure needed to run something like elastic search this fast, never mind the ongoing costs needed to maintain such a system.
Algolia can't be beat from a value standpoint right now in this space.

What do you dislike about the product?
The lack of date based filter widget maybe? I have no serious complaint against the product. Algolia has served all the needs I had for search.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
We are a small team and deploying real-time faceted search on complex sites is very difficult. Then to do is reliably with cross-platform compatibility and great speed, that's nearly impossible. Algolia makes this process trivial by comparison, with a few custom plugins we are able to setup user friendly search on all of our sites easily.
Recommendations to others considering the product:
Just take a look at how much Algolia is used in the open-source community for search docs, or asset library or packages (jsDelivr, Packagist).

The easy integration is the first thing attractive in Algolia, the comes the fast search the suggestion and other features

The bad side of Algolia is that we can not use it promise, we need to use it as a SaaS and this is a privacy for some of our clients
