Timeless
What do you like best about the product?
What I love the most about TM1 is how I can create both a values file and a formula driven excel file. If I'm creating a report, I can just create a template with the formulas embedded so all I have to do is change the month or the year. After I refresh the page, it automatically updates the page.
What do you dislike about the product?
I don't like the template that it comes with the product. It makes my report look very old-fashioned. The interface of the product can be modernized. Also, if the system is down I can't do my job. I also don't like that there is a limit to how much data I can pull out.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
I utilize this product to do many things. I can see the monthly budget with TM1. I use TM1 to either create a report or to analyze different accounts.
Recommendations to others considering the product:
TM1 needs more update and make it more user friendly. It is very intimidating at first.

What do you like best about the product?
Efficiency to manipulate and share massive amounts of data.
What do you dislike about the product?
There really is nothing I dislike. Sometimes with large data manipulations it churns for a bit. But that is understandable so I can't complain.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Sharing large amounts of data with SEVERAL audiences. Benefits are altering financial and manufacturing forecasts in a timely fashion and seeing the views of data we need to see.
Recommendations to others considering the product:
Get it, make sure you have engineer experts to troubleshoot it though.
Flexible tool for adhock reporting
What do you like best about the product?
I like Cognos general adaptability around most any data set, its robust reporting logic and platform is very diverse and can fit many business needs.
What do you dislike about the product?
THe UI is somewhat dated looking and the error messagening is not the worse I have seen but, could use a slight improvement.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
We use it for our SaaS platform. Adapting it to all of our modules which are highly customized and each client has a different set of fields and workflow logic associated with their data
Recommendations to others considering the product:
We have very difficult reporting needs on our tool. This product was able to facilitate our adhock reporting model. Gave us the flexibility to allow our customers have as much or as little control of the tool as we though was logical. Giving them to many options would be overload of information and to little they cant successfully run their data and manipulate it as needed. Setup was a longer process and we ended up building an automated framework tool from our servers. The framework setup did take some time when done manually and the learning curve for using the reporting site took time as well to learn due to its complexity. But once done with our beginning milestones the tool has been a stable platform.

Good product very easy to use and provides a lot of information
Somewhat limited and outdated software

We use it for a lot of our accounting analytics. Once the query is created it can easy create a report for the end user.

Actually manipulation of the data is easier and faster in software such as SQL.

Need to more easily pull data from other sources. Faster output without having to create report before seeing final result.

TM1 for Office Furniture Manufacturer
What do you like best about the product?
TM1 provides an integrated tool allowing business to pull financial numbers into an excel spreadsheet that can be used for reporting, analysis and forecasting.
What do you dislike about the product?
The system works extremely slow, especially when working with similar tools from other companies at the same time.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
TM1 provides various scenarios for quarterly forecasts and revised forecasts in addition to actual financial data and comparisons.
Recommendations to others considering the product:
Be sure to save often for fear of excel crashing when running TM1. Also make sure to have other programs closed and change excel formulas to manual (instead of automatic).
IBM and platform is adequate but slow.

Reliable in the sense that information has never been lost.
What do you dislike about the product?
We have many users on the platform simultaneously which causes it to slow down significantly.

Generating budgets for clients - reliable, user friendly.
IBM TM1 - The best solution for your financial planning.
What do you like best about the product?
The product is incredibly flexible. You can find a way to do almost any requirement in it. I also like how it integrates with other IBM products like BI (Cognos Analytics). The excel functionality is also a must have for most finance users. We are upgrading to Planning Analytics and excited about the new excel and dashboarding functionality.
What do you dislike about the product?
Sometimes the product can but heads with itself (i.e. some load processes can cause the system to lock up, though this is gradually being improved with each release). The reporting aspect of it isn't super flexible even when integrated with BI. In my past experiences with it some higher ups will want to turn it into the end all/be all solution and hold every type of data for your reporting and your company. IBM can sometimes push this and it is certainly a database in it's own way, but it should not be treated as a fully encompassing data warehouse.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
We are using TM1 both as a financial planning and reporting tool. It is a fully encompasses solution for the finance business users. We upgraded it from Cognos EP which was incredibly slow and limiting. The speed gains alone are enough to upgrade, but TM1 really provides the flexibility to do everything the business users need. The fact that we can load data directly into it and report directly off of it saves a lot of time and delivers data to the users very efficiently.
Recommendations to others considering the product:
Take a look at what your current solution lacks and I am betting that TM1 can deliver it. If you are looking for speed, flexiblity, reporting or a variety of user interfaces then TM1 will provide all these and then some. I greatly enjoy developing for it and I have yet to encounter a financial planning or reporting request that I haven't found some way to utilize the software to fulfill.
